Default [SOLVED] Zimbra Mysql - Connection

    Hello forum user,

i got a question for which i have not found any answer until now...

I have zimbra listen on one ip and an apache2 on the other ip. There is no problem between them.
Now i want to use the zimbra mysql to connect with php on the apache2. But i can not connect. I am getting this error message:

Fatal Error: Cannot connect to database, Sql server is not running. Please contact the administrator

    or

Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

I have created a new database, and user. The user has "%" as host, so he can also connect remotely. But this also does not function.

If anybody has this or something like this realized, please answer how.

    THX mic-ster

    Welcome to the forums

First of all please update your profile with the output from the following command so we know which version of ZCS you are running
    Code:
    su - zimbra
    zmcontrol -v
Zimbra bundles its own version of MySQL so you will need to check /opt/zimbra/conf/my.cnf to find where the PID file is

You should not use the Zimbra MySQL for any other application as it's tuned for use by Zimbra only. You may affect the performance of Zimbra and any changes you make may be removed during an upgrade - they are not guaranteed to be left untouched. Your best bet would be to install another instance of MySQL on another server.

i updated my profile with the version string... :-)

I need a mysql server on the same host, so i decided to install mysql-server-5.0

But i can also not connect through php to my mysql server.

If I try to connect as root to the mysql server I am always getting the following error:

Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

So i can not login as root, this error also happens, if I try to connect as testuser... I don't understand this...

Is there any funtioning solution with mysql on the same host where zimbra is running???

There's no problem installing and running another MySQL instance on the same server as Zimbra apart from possible performance problems. If you can't connect to your new instance of MySQL then you have some other problem that's nothing to do with Zimbra, the Zimbra MySQL runs on non-standard ports and doesn't interfere with you new MySQL install. I have run MySQL on my own Zimbra server without problems.

I installed it on the same machine, like I installed many other before.

But only in this situation i am getting always the error above.

The other thing which i don't underständ is that mysql brings the errror also if i am not connecting as root....unbelievable.
Why it says that my root user has no password? if I log in on the terminai, it has no problems. I type in the password and i can start in mysql...

I check, if I found a solution, I will post... Bye

New installation from Backup solved this problem...now mysql is running and zimbra-mysql also... :-)
