zimbra MTA stopped

Hi the Zimbra Gurus please help on this one, i am a zimbra newbie, i am running Zimbra on suse linux 10 sp2.

Everything seems to be fine in my test environment except that when attempting to send messages the following pops up

A network service error has occured
msg: System failure: MessagingException
Method: SendmsgRequest
detail soap Receiver
trace: btpool0-9:1236766861370 b2d2ab6533a73a11

When i check the server

zimbra@bac# zmcontrol start

Starting antispam...Done.
Starting antivirus...Done.
Starting logger...Done.
Starting mailbox...Done.
Starting mta...Done.
Starting snmp...Done.
Starting spell...Done.
Starting stats Done

So next, I ran zmcontrol status and got the following:

zimbra@bac# zmcontrol status

antispam Running
antivirus Running
ldap Running
logger Running
mailbox Running
mta Stopped

Postfix is not running
saslauthd is running with pid 19507
snmp Running
spell Running
stats Running

Please come to my rescue

Please check /var/log/zimbra.log for any error messages.
