Default [SOLVED] Spam - ips.backscatterer.org

Hello everyone,
Last weekend we added ips.backscatterer.org to our DNS RBL'S. This morning I was alarmed by the fact the Comcast and Gmail were both being blocked. Several of our users started complaining that they weren't receiving emails from people in the Comcast & Gmail network.

My question to all of you is - Have you tried adding this RBL to your list and have you had the same complaints?

Perhaps my kill ratio is set to high to have that RBL running? My current setting is 85 Kill percent & 5 Tag percent.

For me being the admin I thought wow this great! My spam was reduced almost instantly but on the other hand my users were not happy. I'm very interested in getting your feedback how you manage your spam?

Chris,

I have never used that RBL myself. We do something a little diffrent with RBLs. Sometimes, valid email providers (gmail, Yahoo, and various private providers) get placed on the RBL. So instead of just dropping the connection for the RBL, we actually add an added score in Spamassasin. This way just being on the RBL alone wont get it dropped, it will just make it have a score high enough that if it fails pretty much any other test, it will at the least be placed in the users Junk folder. This is not difficult to do. You will need to modify the 50_scores file in Spamassasin.

God Bless,
Marty

Using the Barracuda RBL will reduce your SPAM requests quite a bit plus the use of SaneSecurity signatures aswell.
