briefcase files opening read only

I've searched the forums etc. and not found any help or information re: this, so sorry if I'm being redundant....

I've just started playing with the briefcase. I'm using 5.0.12_GA_2789.UBUNTU8_64.

When using the zimbra web client interface files in the briefcase that are opened by double clicking or rightclick+open are read only. For example, if I open an excel spreadsheet this way, it opens in excel as read only. (It also adds a "-1", "-2", "-3", etc. depending on how many times I've opened it, to the end of the filename, but that's another matter.) Is this a bug, am I doing something wrong, or is it by design?

I am able to open the file in read-write mode using red drive. However, I would prefer for the end users to not have to install this (nay, *I* would prefer not to have to install this myself on all the end user's pc's! :-) )
