downloading from backup mail server

Hi,
I'm looking for pointers on how to go about setting up my Zimbra mail server to download any mails sitting on our backup mail server once it boots back up after any downtime?

If you have it set as a true backup mail server (on a backup MX) then it should automatically forward the mail when your server comes on-line. If it isn't doing that you haven't set-up the backup correctly.
