Sounds like zimbra isn't running, do 'zmcontrol status' as the zimbra user and see if the services are up.

Phoenix;

These are the services that are running:
antispam Running
antivirus Running
ldap Running
logger Running
mailbox Running
mta Running
snmp Running
spell Running

After reading some of the fetchmail forums, I get the impression that a socket error is an error from the external server. Meaning not my server, but the server I'm trying to retrieve my mail from!

I hope that's not the case! Can I use fetchmail to get my hotmail email as well?

Is it a hotmail account you're trying to retrieve your mail from? If that's what you're trying to do then I don't think fetchmail supports that.

I'm trying to retrieve mail from two accounts... one is from peoplepc and the other one is from hotmail.

I did manage to download mail from peoplePC using fetchmail using the following command "fetchmail -k". But this method does not remove the mail from the remote server and everytime I run this command I get all 111 emails downloaded again!

I'm trying to figure out gotmail to retrieve my hotmail since fetchmail doesn't support this.

review the fetchmail man page; you need the capital K option:

-k | --keep
(Keyword: keep) Keep retrieved messages on the remote mailserver.

-K | --nokeep
(Keyword: nokeep) Delete retrieved messages from the remote mailserver.

-U | --uidl
(Keyword: uidl) Force UIDL use (effective only with POP3).
Force client-side tracking of 'newness' of messages (UIDL
stands for ''unique ID listing'' and is described in RFC1725).

I thought you were using webmin to configure fetchmail? There's an option in there "Leave messages on server?" which will download or remove messages. Anyway, as bobby said, if you're using the command line the -K is what you need.

I've been trying webadmin and had a socket error. So I wanted to try it manually and I've been doing 'fetchmail -K' and I get the same socket error as well!

I tried fetchmail -k (lower case) and it fetches my mail and skips the ones that it's already downloaded, so I'll just have to remember to go into my ISP account once in a while and manually remove my mail I guess!

When you use webmin are you specifying the protocol to use or are you leaving it at default?
