Default Forwarding mail to a relay

Is it possible for a Zimbra server to forward outbound e-mail to an e-mail gateway (like mailmarshal...http://www.marshal.com/pages/mailmarshalsmtp.asp.

We have a customer who wants to have an outbound whitelist (users can only send mail to members of the whitelist, all others get bounces or some sort of denial messages). Can Zimbra do this in any way? If not then we want to use Mail Marshal for that purpose.

Yes, you can forward mail to a relay for outbound delivery. It's an option in the Admin UI, there are a couple of threads in the forum about authentication if you need to do that.

That link you've provided needs editing, there's a stray ')' at the end of it. What is it that they provide? Is it just anti-spam services? If it is then Zimbra has pretty comprehensive anti-spam and anti-virus solutions with things such as Spamassassin & DSPAM, clamav etc.

Sorry - I edited the URL. It had a trailing ")". They do spam protection but we need to use it for the whitelist capabilities. Basically, we will want all outbound mail to go to the mail marshal server and the recipients to be compared against a whitelist. If the recipient is on the whitelist then it would allow the e-mail. If not, it would bounce back. If Zimbra can do this natively then we wouldn't need to buy mail marshal.
    Sincerely,

    Alex

Well spamassassin has whitelist capabilities, you'd need to edit some files and at the moment they would be overwritten during any zimbra upgrade but it is possible. Have a look at this page. - if that's what you need then I guess it will save you some money. I think that also applies to outbound mail but you'd need to confirm that with someone who knows spamassassin better than I do.

Feature enhancements are always welcome in bugzilla for the zimbra team to consider.
    Regards
