upgrades for open source ver

Hi all,

We have a demo of Zimbra on Redhat that is about to expire.

Is it possible to still use it as a standard mail/imap/group calendar server after the license expires?

Should we install the open source version instead if we don't plan to use any other features?

How easy would it be to convert the open source version to the pro version if we choose to need the pay for features?

And lastly, I understand that Zimbra will finally have true external LDAP integration in Q2 (meaning that it will fully integrate with an existing external dir service). When does the open source version get these upgrades?

TO be clear on the licensing effects:

If your license is expired, or you've got too many users, you won't be able to create any more accounts. Existing accounts will still function at the level of the open source software, plus backup and indexing.

This means that mobile sync and the outlook connector will no longer function.

If you choose not to relicense, simply "upgrade" to the OSS version, and you'll be able to create more users.

I believe you just download the same exact NE version you are running but the open source version and run the install script, and obviously do a full backup first. Never done this before though so maybe ought to wait for someone else to chime in

When I went from open source version to the network edition I was told to do a total reinstall. I would assume the same would apply in reverse. Obviously you would do a backup and move your data.

There are a couple of other things that will happen with an expired edition of NE, the most notable of which is the fact you won't be able to create any more accounts on the server. Download the same version of the OS version as the NE version you already have installed. You should take a backup of your /opt/zimbra directory before the upgrade then unpack the OS version you've downloaded and just run the './install.sh' script. You should thentake another backup of zimbra and you should have a working system with the Open Source version. When you've finished that you should upgrade to the current release of Zimbra 5.0.12
