    Default SetHostName URGENT!!!

    Hello all

I made a terrible mistake. I ran "zmsetservername --help"!!! and guess what! It changed all hostname attributes in my ldap server database to --help! and I didn't have a backup Then by reading everything in the script, I tried to do everything in reverse and LDAP database is fine now. Every service comes up OK. But when I log into the system it gives me this error:

msg - operation sent to wrong host (you want 'zimbra.test.com')

So what happens if you run zmsetservername using the correct host name and restart the services, does that not fix it? Does setting the name and a reboot fix it? Does 'zmprov gas' show the correct server name?

well, zmsethostname apparently couldn't change the server_host_name in zmlocalconfig. I guess it was because I ran it with root. So the next time I ran it it couldn't fix the domain name as before. zmprov gas gives me two servers now:

    --help
    zimbra.test.com

How can I delete the --help?

    Hi Kilbo,
    Sorry that you're having trouble.

Try to stop all zimbra services and rerun the setup script.
When you rerun the script, before you apply all the settings, make sure you change the hostname.

*Before you proceed, do a backup. If you have the OSS, then you can go to the wiki and follow the instructions there.
If you have the network edition, run the zmbackup tool.

    su -zimbra
    zmcontrol stop

make sure all the services are stopped by running:
    ps auxww | grep zimbra
    kill any left over services.

    then run as root:
    /opt/zimbra/libexec/zmsetup.sh

good luck, and let us know!

Well, I did run zmsetup.pl. It didn't ask me anything! It just got all the default configuration from LDAP and reconfigured the system exactly as before. It didn't prompt me for any changes. I am running ZCS 3.1. I guess the problem is because of having two servers in my "zmprov gas". I deleted one server, but it made it worse! Now the services don't start. I replaced everything from backups and now I am back to starting point. I have to fix this "zmprov gas" table, some how.

Well! Finally! After a nightmare! I got the server up and running.

Apparently in the zmsethostname script, it adds the new server to the list of servers. So I went and deleted all servers then modified the script so that it only addes the new server. Then my "zmprov gas" become OK and everything now works fine! But I guess somebody out there should address these issues. It is really dangerous to have such scripts lurking around!

    I'm glad it's working Kilbo.

You can file a bugzilla request, if you want.
Also, it might be a good idea to put something in the wiki.

    Good luck,
    jh

That script is NOT in the path by default. You must run it directly and find it in libexec so it's not really "lurking around" but pretty well hidden.

How would you recommend we better hide it?

I think those measures are , in general, enough for most cases. It might also help to have a warning to users.... curious enough... to find and attempt to use it directly. I'd imagine it's easy enough to do and then you can say "we told you so"
