Default Zimbra Chat Question

Hi, my users (zimbra OS 5.x) are asking if they can add non-zimbra people to their chat list. Since Zimbra is now owned by yahoo I wonder if you can only add zimbra accounts or zimbra and yahoo account (or hotmail, etc).

Also, can my users transfer files during a chat? if so, how can I enable/disable that?

thanks,

They can easily use an chat application like Adium (Adium - Download) for OSX as their chat client for the Zimbra service. If they do they'll have the features you're requesting.

Yes, pretty certain you need an external IM application (Pidgin, Pandion, etc) for file-transfer.

The chat interoperability with Yahoo and AIM was disabled I believe, for some performance reasons... have not heard anything more recently. However, as it works now, you can interoperate with other XMPP servers/networks, such as Googletalk, if you expose two ports to the Internet and add some DNS records...

I would say most Windows users are using Pandion at our setup... so yes, it does work. In Connections, port 5223, checkbox for Require SSL Encryption... and for web-client-IM <--> external-client properly showing status to each other (online, etc), I usually add a "/zcs" to the login, to specify that XMPP resource.

Yes, I sometimes use Pandion to transfer a file... it works, but it is not immediately evident, as there is some UI/display issue, but it does indeed go...
