Default Domain alias and reply address

Can anybody explain how a domain alias deals with the reply addres.

For example:

I have my main domain: main.com
and I have an alias domain: alias.com

So mail to user@alias.com is received by user@main.com but...

1. What does the user see when he opens his mailbox. Are all mails received by user@main.com or can he also see which mails were send to user@alias.com

2. If he replies to a message is it automatically using user@alias.com if the mail came from that domain, or will the reply adres be user@main.com?
