Default Zimbra and Hold Litigation

I am new to Zimbra (love it by the way) and several accounts have asked me if there is away archive the users email. Sometimes laywers ask for a. “hold litigation,” I am being told, and if they specify, they can request all emails sent and received. So certain types of business are required to have all emails sent and received for each user for 90 days, or more. Is there a way to do this with Zimbra? If so, how?

Thank you so much

for Network Edition customers there is the Archive & Discoery add-on that can be purchased to do what you're talking about. Zimbra email archiving, discovery, and search for corporate governance, SOX and HIPAA compliance.

For the free version theres a few threads you can probably find on here with people accomplishing a basic functionality of this

Default hmmm.....

Well I did some searching...and I didn't find anything that could help, for the free version.

The account I am talking to has like 200 people, and not a large budget. so 200 x 25 per person just for the audit feature is pretty high. Let alone they would need the network edition.

Does anyone know away to make this sort of thing happen with the free version?

Default always_bcc poor man's archiving for OSS Zimbra :)

For OSS version of zimbra Postfix can Archive/copy all IN+OUT email to certain account you want.
** Please make sure its a LOCAL ACCOUNT to reduce load on server
** yourbackupdomain.com or the backup domain needs to be on the same zimbra for best results.

you can edit the following file:
/opt/zimbra/postfix-x.x.x.x/conf/main.cf

and add the following line..with correct email id:
always_bcc = allemail@yourbackupdomain.com

Restart zimbra...
and you will get all email IN+OUT in that account..you can filter the emails of you like to keep only outbound email

* After any upgrade these settings needs to be redone

You can also do something like this: miniGeek.org Postfix archive emails via bcc

It'll separate the emails out by user rather than dumping them all into one account. You will probably want to add the hash file as the blog post suggests rather than adding a field to Zimbra's LDAP. The post isn't Zimbra specific, but since Zimbra uses Postfix it's all the same. Like the previous post says, you'll have to re-apply changes after an upgrade.

You wouldn't have to necessarily make sure it's a local account. You could do it to another mail server, but make sure to send it to one you own so you don't get yourself blacklisted.

ZCS has built-in support for legal intercept, which works a little differently then the separate Archiving and Discovery product. You can set the following attributes on an account or cos. zimbraInterceptAddress, zimbraInterceptSendHeadersOnly, zimbraInterceptFrom, zimbraInterceptSubject, zimbraInterceptBody.

/opt/zimbra/conf/attrs/zimbra-attrs.xml has a discription for each of these if you want to know more.
