How can I know the root password.
thanks.
How can I know the root password.
thanks.
When I do the installation it`s set a password to admin@xxxx.com but if I want to change that password, what I have to do, if I forgot that passw, or if the installation if done by someone and that person is gone from the factory, what..
is any possibility for the administrator to take that zimbra root passw. Is a simply question.
If you have access to the server itself then login as root and su - zimbra. You can then use zmprov to reset the password.
You didn't provide that password, it's automatically generated and you should never need the root password for Zimbra operations. Please note, this isn't the root password to your server it's just for some functions within Zimbra. You can find the current passwords (search the forums for details) or change them with this wiki article, please don't change them to something that can be easily guessed.

Bill
Thanks,
I wanted to know because I only have a administrator account, admin account, and was to know how to change that passw or know wich was.
*uxbox I did the split dns and my zimbra gets mails, thanks, was very usefull your help.
Long 24 hours still working on this, had a server turned over and purchased an ssl certificate from godaddy, tried the install suggested at Manual certificate / installation for Godaddy 2048 requirement by copying and pasting the new certs into the existing commercial files. Stopped and Restarted zimbra.
Unfortunately the person that set this up didn't turn over the su - zimbra password, so I tried to reset it from root because i can login to the server itself.
Now i get these errors trying to reset the zimbra password in order to have rights to reset the servername etc.
Can't use this command either:
zmprov gaa
or this:
zimbra@zimbra:~$ zmprov sp admin@somplace.com temp123
[] INFO: I/O exception (java.net.ConnectException) caught when processing request: Connection refused
[] INFO: Retrying request
ERROR: zclient.IO_ERROR (invoke Connection refused, server: localhost) (cause: java.net.ConnectException Connec
tion refused)
Thank you Bill,
I did type su zimbra and it showed me logged in, but when i type this next
zimbra@zimbra:~$ cd bin
zimbra@zimbra:~/bin$ zmprov gaa
[] INFO: I/O exception (java.net.ConnectException) caught when processing request: Connection refused
[] INFO: Retrying request
ERROR: zclient.IO_ERROR (invoke Connection refused, server: localhost) (cause: java.net.ConnectException Connec
tion refused)
For some reason it is refusing the connection, and I'm unable to see any users for example following this technique below.
zmprov gaa (to list all accounts and overcome your blackout ;-)
zmprov sp joe@domain.com test321 (to set a new password)
I don't mind you taking a look around in the server. I think maybe I really blew this one.
Best,
AJ
I also tried this thread using the ssl download from godaddy, although I was unsure which setup to use the APACHE which comes with two files, the domainname.crt and the gz_bundle.crt or the TOMCAT which comes with 4. I tried using the Tomcat since it has the intermediate file. Unfortunately I couldn't get the key's to match.

Ready to throw in the towel on this one. Anybody out there at the level of giving it a crack?
