Question uid vs canonical address

Hello,

We're working on the upgrade from zimbra 4.5.9 to zimbra 5.0.

Working in an environment with accounts based on uid like jrobb, each user has a canonical address like john.robb on its account used for authentication.

I've heard I can use aliases to avoid using zimbraMailCanonicalAddress (see Search by bug number) but I'd like to know if there's a way to hide all mail addresses like jrobb@example.com from zimbra.

This would be great because aside from doubling the number of addresses, we also have accounts like "08gye1820" and removing them from the auto-completion would be very welcome.

Regards,

Have a read of Removing Users from GAL as you can hide the users from the GAL.

Thanks, I just tried it on our 4.5.9 install and it does not work as we would like :

When we hide an account, the aliases are also hidden. Has this changed in 5.0 or is there a tweak to show aliases while hiding the account address ?

Regards,

After some searches, I've not found anything that would let me think it's feasible.

Do somebody know where in the source code are defined the attributes which are retrieved when the GAL is search, when composing the To: for example ?

Regards,
