We did this with our mailstore servers and a SAN for the hardware.
For the software, we used Heartbeat from
HomePage: Linux HA. Heartbeat controls "resources".
In our case, it's managing the IPs, Zimbra mountpoints, and Zimbra services.
We went a little further and used the linux bond networking driver to setup active/failover ethernet connectivity from two different NICs (different chipsets/drivers) connected to two different Layer3 switches. There's also a separate management network that Heartbeat uses for communicating with the other nodes.
