Smile Month 1 experiences....FOSS

Hi,
We have been running for just over a month now, and to be honest it has been quite a trial!

Moved over 150 users from a basic POP3 style mail server to ZCS FOSS. The install and setup itself was straight forward, the dealing with staff who can be resistant to change was and continues to be hard but we will get there.

Personally I love the Zimbra system and have completely dumped Outlook 2007 since we went live in favor of ZWC.

Here are some of the trials we have dealt with:

- most users started on IE7, this was ok until we started having problems with attachments, particularly files that contained spaces, IE would just hang like it didn't know what to do or gave an error. Testing the same email/attachment in FF3 worked fine.

So we then converted all staff over to FF3.

- next some users on FF3 were having problems printing, the output to the printer came out garbled and totally unreadable, some were fixed after updating printer drivers, some still not fixed. Normal websites printed from the same browser worked fine, just not in ZWC.

I have scoured the forums and bugzilla for answers in case there was a logical fix for these issues and did find some entries - but no solutions.

All things going well I hope to convert to the NE version next year.

Do other admins out there have similar issues? Do you have any ideas or tips to resolve these issues?

Also found that Google Chrome suffers the same attachment opening issue as IE (and MS Office):
This webpage is not available.

The webpage at https://mail.xxxxxxxx.net.au/service...id=6608&part=2 might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

Yet works fine with FF3 and IE7 (running Open Office 3.0).

Your experience largely mirrors my own. Currently in the process of converting users to firefox.

firefox also has the advantage of the drag and drop plugin for attachments. this was a huge hit at my company. the reality is with most userbases that they rarely tout the new features they have but really get on your case about the things they miss.

Yes the drag and drop is a great feature for FF.

Another thing a lot of our users miss right now is the 'read receipt' option - I would have thought this would be high priority particularly when ZCS is aimed at business and education users.

Anyone know what the problem is with IE7 opening 'some' attachments like a MS word doc that contains spaces? It appears to hang and does not start the word program to open the attachment. Same email in FF works flawlessly.
