Default Splitting the existing Zimbra domain

Hi All,

I am using Zimbra Network Edition (Release 5.0.10_GA_2638.UBUNTU6) on Ubuntu with external AD authentication. Everything is working fine with around 300 accounts. But currently we are planning to split the mail setup in to two mail servers both are in different continent.

The article Split Domain - Zimbra :: Wiki is seems to be excellent but it is mentioning only one Zimbra server (as primary or secondary) and not mentioned about mailbox movement.

For me I want to move around 60% of the mailboxes, accounts with hundreds of DLs from the current server to the new one.

Can anybody please let us know the steps for accomplishing this?

Thanks in advance.

I think the split domain setup is for one zimbra system sharing one or more domains with another dissimilar mail system (ie: Exchange).

Is this what you want to do?

If you want to have two Zimbra servers with one or more domains shared across servers, I suspect a Zimbra Multi Server install is needed

Hi Jessie,

Thanks for the reply.

For the question you asked, I have only one domain needs to be shared between servers and the second server should work as a backup MX if my primary went down.

And I have around 150 accounts need to be moved to the new server with their existing Calendar, contacts etc.

The document shows how to setup new environment with multiple servers, but how can i move my existing mail boxes from primary to seconday.

Thanks,

So you wish the second server to be a hot standby then ? If so then you are looking at a HA setup across a WAN

Not really, I want the second server in another location (country) and all the user accounts in that location (currently in the main server) to be moved to the new server which will also act as the second MX of my domain.

Actually this is for reducing the load and traffic in the current server.

It is really a split domain setup with the following features.

1. All the mails should first comes to the MX1 server (current Mail server)
2. The mails which are destined to the accounts residing in the second server(new server) should go to the secondary box.
3. If primary down, all the mails should queued in the secondary box and when the primary become active mails should go to the primary (Transport).

Expecting valuable suggestions

Thanks,

Default Adding one more server

Hi All,

Currently we have one Zimbra Server acting as the Mail server of our Domain. We are planning to add one more server in another continent and move some of the existing mail boxes to the new server.

Current setup is a single server installation and running all the services in the same server except AV/AS (We are using Baracuda). What I want to do is to add one more mail server which will have Mailbox service and MTA service running and move some of the mailboxes from existing to the new server.

Anybody faced this kind of situation?

Expecting your valuable suggestions.

Hi,

Can anybody tell, can we add one more server with the existing Zimbra single server setup?

Currently we have only one server having all the zimbra services installed, I want one more server to share the mailboxes.

Thanks in advance

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the reply, I have read the Multi server Installation Guide, but it mentioning only the new installation and not telling anything for the addition of one more server in the existing single server setup.

My intention is to share the load in two servers by adding one more server in another location (country) and move some mailboxes in to the new server.

As a result people from the new server location able to send and receive from the new server. I mean MTA and Mailboxes should be there in the new server for sending and receiving mails, all other services like LDAP can be in the current server.

I am expecting a valuable suggestion from you.

regards,
