Default [SOLVED] Massive Duplication

When I woke up this morning, I have a massive duplication of emails. I think the largest I had was about 1000 copies of the same email. Rather than 7 emails in my inbox, I had 4000.

I went through and deleted everything out of the folders affected but it would be nice to know why this occurred. I can probably go back and get to the exact point of having all the duplication if you guys could tell me how to fix this issue.

Thanks,

did the messages all have the same timestamp in the headers not necessarily in the preview view? Did you check your mta logs to see that you actually didn't receive 4000 e-mails? I had an issue once where a person using outlook had an e-mail in their outbox that was sending everytime it did a send and receive which was set to like every minute on his machine. it wasn't until the recipient called asking why they keep sending the same e-mail was the problem discovered.

Default Same timestamp

They're all the same timestamp. The duplicated messages were from last night all the way back to a few months ago.

They seem to be exactly the same message. :S

Do you have any mail filters in place that could be forwarding the message to yourself?

probably the best spot to start looking for what might have happened is /opt/zimbra/log/mailbox.log I'm not sure what you'd be looking for but maybe you'll find something.

Default No Filters

I don't have any filters but it's possible the tool I use to sync mail boxes is what did it. I'll assume this is the case. Any ideas how I can wipe the duplicated messages?

You can use an IMAP client like Thunderbird. There's an add-in for T-Bird that should help you out.

I looked into it a little more and it turns out this happened because somebody was trying to perform a backup on the data I was working on.

Thanks for that link
