Default Zimbra Logger not working

HI all..

I"ve got an interesting problem. I just installed Zimbra on FC3. If I type in zmcontrol status, Logger is supposedly up and running. However, if I log in as an admin and try to view Server statistics, I get "Data Not Available".
Anyone have any ideas what may be going on?

thanks!

joe

You need to wait 24-48 hrs to see the stats. These gather during the day and will process and create graphs over the first 2 nights.

Default hmm

I should have mentioned that the server has been running for almost a week.
I have also been having problem receiving mail. I sent myself email and did a

zmmsgtrace -s <myemail>

and I got no results...
I also tried

zmmsgtrace -t 20060403

and I still didn't get any results.
(I did, however find my test message in the /opt/zimbra/store/0/3/msg/2 directory. I am not sure what this directory is for. I am speculating that the first 0 is the server, then the 3 is my userid. The test message does not appear in any of my mailboxes.

This lead me to suspect that somehow the logger was not working correctly.. however:

[zimbra@mail2 ~]$ zmcontrol status
Host mail2.mydomain.com
antispam Running
antivirus Running
ldap Running
logger Running
mailbox Running
mta Running
snmp Running
spell Running

Is there any way for me to determine if the logger is actually working?

Let's get mail working first. No mail, means not much to trace or graph.

When you send a mail what do you get in /var/log/zimbra.log?

Default Got mail working!

Okay.. I got the mail working. Looks like it's was a problem with DNS and our firewall. We currently dont have any internal zones set up in our DNS. It seems that when I sent an email to myself, it looked up my mx and tried to send using our external IP address using LMTP. I opened up LMTP on our firewall (temporary fix until we can get our DNS set up) and it seems to work fine now. (although not the most ideal way since the traffic flows out of our firewall then back in)

Is there a better way to fix this?

Split DNS is the only fix.

Default Logger still not working

I wanted to let it run for another few days just to make sure I didn't inadvertently fix it.. but it seems clear that the logger is still not working. I still have no information in the logging. Though that status says everything is fine. Is there another way to verify that the logger is running correctly?

thanks,

joe

Did you run zmsyslogsetup as root? This is where we get the logger data.

So to check the logger status.

we need to check it as a root?

I am having problem starting logger since the beginning of zimbra start.

I'm running Debian 5 OS.
