Default Aliases

I'm trying to migrate some of our aliases in our email old system to Zimbra. Some of the aliases are not zimbra accounts.

I was going to put the changes in /opt/zimbra/postfix/conf/aliases. Is this the proper place to put aliases and do the changes survive upgrades and server restarts?

Why not use the 'aaa' command within zmprov :: wiki to ensure the changes will stay ?

So for example here is what I'm trying to replicate from my /etc/aliases file

validzimbrauser1: validzimbrauser1, validzimbrauser2
nonaccount1: validzimbrauser1, validzimbrauser2
nonaccount2: validzimbrauser1, validzimbrauser2

validzimberuser1 is one person and validzimbrauser2 is their secretary(who is supposed to get every message sent to validzimbrauser1).
nonaccount1 and nonaccount2 are used in case somebody sends it to the wrong email address.

so I would use zmprove like this "zmprov aaa validzimbrauser1 validzimbrauser1, validzimbrauser2"

and then do the same thing for nonaccount1 and nonaccount2?

I can get 'zmprov aaa hurstel@domain.com justatest@domain.com"
but I can't add another account to justatest@domain. Can you not have multiple aliases with Zimbra? I've been searching the forums but can't seem to find the answer.

You can have any number of aliases that you like. However, if they have a different domain name to your mail domain you'll need to add that domain name to Zimbra. You can't create aliases in the Admin UI for a non-existent domain. If these aliases are for incoming mail that would be the way to do it, if they are for outgoing mail it would be set in the user preferences by the Persona feature.

Sorry for the confusion but this would be for the same domain.

after I run zmprov aaa hurstel@domain.com justatest@domain.com

I get "ACCOUNT_EXISTS" when I run zmprov aaa user2@domain.com justatest@domain.com

I'm just trying to get multiple people behind justatest@domain.com

So justatest@domain.com is the mailbox name then ? If so the aliases should come after that not before

AddAccountAlias aaa
{name@domain|id|adminName} {alias@domain}
zmprov aaa joe@domain.com joe.smith@engr.domain.com

justatest@domain.com is the alias. I'm trying to get multiple zimbra accounts attached to it. So when somebody sends a message to the alias justatest@domain.com, it will then go to mutlple zimbra accounts. I have no problem getting it the alias going to a single account.

Why a alias then and not a distribution list ? You can only bind a alias to a single email account, though a email account can have multiple aliases.

I was just trying to move over the entries that our old server has for /etc/aliases.

We have several users that have an alias entry so that when mail gets sent to them, it goes to both them and somebody else and sometimes its used incase somebody is sending mail to the wrong username.

example...

hurstel:hurstel@domain.com,assistant@domain.com
hhoward:hurstel@domain.com,assistant@domain.com
hurstelh:hurstel@domain.com,assistant@domain.com

If there is a better way to do this, I'd be glad to try.
