| | System upgrade, 32 to 64 bit? Quick question: We're running NE 5.0.9 on SuSE 32 bit.
We're planning on changing our servers, buying a new one and setting it up with CentOS 5.2 64 bit.
So, the question: Can we restore from an NE backup from the old SuSE 32bit system on the new CentOS 64bit system?
Thanks

| | | No.
First of all, CentOS is not supported for NE.
Then you'll do a quick search on the forum and see there are special steps to take to upgrade from 32 bits to 64 bits. |

| | Yes, I saw these Wiki steps, but was wondering if they were up to date. Might be that newer backups were compatible between 32 and 64 bit systems?
I know that CentOS is not supported, but since it is Red Hat basically, it should work, shouldn't it? |

| | @uxbod: Since you are running NE on CentOS 5.2, does it install properly out of the box or do I have to prepare the system somehow before installation (like SuSE 10.3)? |

| | | It works fine out of the box, though on the install command you do have to use the option --platform-override. As Klug has said CentOS is not officially support for the use of NE even though many of us do use it including Zimbra employees you may wish to vote for Bug 23487 - Official Support for ZCS Network Edition on CentOS

| | | Phoenix, I am surprised that from Suse -> RHES would not work ? Has it been tried out of interest ?
Have a read of ZCS to ZCS Migrations aswell.

| | OK, you scared me with the support thing. How about switching to Ubuntu 8.04 64 bit instead of CentOS?
It should be supported. Is installation flawless on Ubuntu 8.04? |

| | | Installation is flawless on Ubuntu LTS and you'll be supported 8)
However, as it was said previously, you won't be able to restore your current backup to the new server. You'll need to "migrate". | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | Why Join?
