Default Restore Question Relating to Outlook Conn.

An issue has come up concerning the restoration of Zimbra data on a new replacement server. The Administration Guide for v 5.0 under the section for Backup and Restore states that an initial sync is required after the database has been restored. My supervisor has a very complex setup in outlook that does not get backed up with the data on Zimbra. With the initial sync being required he is looking at several hours re-configuring his flags, categories, etc.
What would be changed in the data that would require a resync afeter a restore?

Anyone!!

If the Zimbra services on the old server were shut down and the /opt/zimbra directory in its entirity rsync'd over to the new server would a resync still be needed?

Guess I dont' quite understand, but let me ask this. Is the server name/IP address (from old hardware to new hardware) going to remain the same? Then I would say, "if zimbra services were shut down, rsync'd to new hardware, IP and name is the same", then how would outlook know the difference after the fact? I just migrated hardware about 2 weeks ago, and had no problems, using rsync, etc. (and we have about 7 Outlook installs here)

The answer is yes the name and IP address will be changed after the rsync and after the old system is taken offline. It is good to know that you have done the same thing without problems with having to resync outlook.

Are there any potential "gotcha's" that I need to look out for when changing the IP address and hostname?

Not sure I understand your answer - for me, migrating to the new hardware, I used the same name and IP address. In other words - after rsyncing, took old server off-line, and changed new server to be the same name and IP address as what the old server had.

If you will be using a new name and IP address on your new server, you will have additional steps/issues to work with... and I dont' know how the Outlook issue would be. Maybe fine, dunno, I cannot speak to that in my experience.

Sorry for the confusion,
I will be taking the old server offline after the rsync
Then I will rename the new server to the name of the old server in the host file.
I will also change the IP address of the new server to the address of the old server.

The new production server will have the original IP address and name.
