| | | Search bug of some kind. I'm not real sure what's going on but I cannot successfully search my mail for some terms. It's inconsistency is what puzzles me most. I am receiving the same results from the web client and latest zDesktop.
I know I'm on a slightly older version, but I don't recall reading any search bugs being fixed in subsequent releases. I should have time to upgrade to the latest version next week if I happened to have overlooked this being a known/corrected bug.
Version: Release 5.0.6_GA_2313.UBUNTU6 UBUNTU6 NETWORK edition
I was searching my mail for an message back in Sept announcing a change to my usenet servers.
-I tried searching for 'usenet' with zero results.
-I tried searching for 'use' with some results, but not the desired result
-I manually paged to 50-100 email listing of my Inbox and found it sitting there from Sept 24th.
Same thing happened when searching for 'linked' for an old LinkedIn message. It's there, in my inbox.. but not showing up from search results. Not showing up from searching for "link" either.
The only commonality that I saw was the search term was in both the Sender and Subject line, so I tried to search for "espn". It worked as it should, returning emails that had both ESPN in the sender and subject line.
How can I help track down the problem? Any thoughts? I can recreate this at will.
Thanks! |

| | | I didn't at the time of my initial post, but I'm seeing the same behavior after reindexing as you described. |

| | | Hi,
I have a similar problem. The search works in the inbox only. I've removed the in:inbox search preference but this doesn't fix it.
I can even search for text I can see in the preview screen and I get "no results"
any ideas

| | | searching can be very wierd sometimes. I'm not sure if this is what you're experiencing but like here's an example of the wierd behavior
Theres an e-mail i have wth the topic "photos with commentary" i have not in my inbox, but in another personal folder.
If I just put 'commentary' in the search bar and hit enter, it finds it
If I put 'commen' in the search bar and hit enter, it does not find it
If I put 'commen*' in the search bar and hit enter, it finds it.
so it seems that it only matches a full word unless you add the * afterwards. so if you try searching for like *linked* does it find it? |

| | | Search behavior Hi bdial,
Thanks for the input, the documentation clearly explained this. There is also the known issue of not searching sub folders.
It may be that my test case with single word messages stops the search from being able to match the word as it is not delimited by a space in front! Maybe not a common use case.
In any case it's not a significant bug so I think we can leave it there |

Maybe not a common use case. | You don't need a space in front of a word to search, from that description I don't really understand what your problem is with the search function.
Have you read this article in the wiki?

| | | Bill, thanks much!
I didn't realize partial word searches didn't work. Using a wildcard provided the desired effect.
That wiki article is good stuff, learned a few new things.
Thanks again |
