Can you get a thread dump of tomcat when it's hung/not responding.

kill -QUIT <tomcat pid>

This would be a big help.

Run:

kill -QUIT <tomcat pid>

Then get it from:

/opt/zimbra/tomcat/logs/catalina.out

Kevin, I get this when I try to open

Could not open the file "/opt/zimbra/jakarta-tomcat-5.5.7/logs/catalina.out" because gedit has not been able to automatically detect the character coding.

Please, check that you are not trying to open a binary file and try again selecting a character coding in the 'Open File...' (or 'Open Location') dialog.

That's the file but there is no stack trace. Did you run the "kill -QUIT <tomcat pid>" command when the server was hung?
