    Default Custom Reject Messages

    Hi,

I have turned on the Reject mail option's for if the hostnames and ip's are not valid. Is there a way I can change the customer message to inform people more about what the problem is and also possibly give them an alternative form of contact?

    Thanks

    Mark

You'd have to modify the postfix config. At this time those changes are not saved in upgrades.

    Thanks,

Can you point me to a file or even a place in a file?

I am new to postfix, used to sendmail/qmail

    Thanks

    hi,

I had a look in there but there appears to be no mention of messages?

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks

You'll see config with hash:/some/file/path/to/message That's the way you override it in postfix.

    Hi,

I got the idea of the second part but i can find the variable to assign it against. I dont see where it talks about the reject message.

    Thanks

    Default depends

whether you can customize reject codes depends on the type of restriction you are applying. Here are examples types of restrictions you can apply:

    - If you restriction is from an access table, look at the access man page - you will see examples of how to come up with your own reject text.

    - If you are using an rbl rejection, then there is rbl_reply_maps.

    - For reject_unknown_client, you can modify unknown_client_reject_code (and there are other *_reject_codes, unknown client is just one example).

So it all depends on what restrictions you are applying. IMO the defaults work fine and are well thought out.

Check out the postconf man page online all the smtpd_*_restrictions. Note that this is online man page is for the postfix 2.3 dev tree, but postfix documentation is absolutely terrific about pointing our which features have been added in what version (zimbra is shipping the stable 2.2.x postfix): http://www.postfix.org/postconf.5.html

    Default hmm

said too much and said too little. Going back and reading your first post, looks like you should read this:

    http://www.postfix.org/postconf.5.ht...nt_reject_code

If you do want to go ahead and modify those you can. Like KevinH said we throw your main.cf mods out - but we are fixing that as of the next release.
