    Default [SOLVED] Openfire to link to Zimbra accounts

    Hi All,

    just installed Zimbra 5.0.9 on MacOSX Server 10.5.4 and the system also runs Openfire... I wanted to configure Openfire to lookup the Zimbra LDAP server and authenticate users against that.... saves the hassle of configuring the accounts twice ;-)

    Anyone?

    Thanks
    Deeeep

    Why not just use the integrated IM server on Zimbra?

    I use the following in my openfire config, or at least I did, with openfire and zimbra:

    Code:
    <ldap>
        <host>localhost</host>
        <port>389</port>
        <usernameField>uid</usernameField>
        <nameField>fullName</nameField>
        <emailField>email</emailField>
        <baseDN>ou=people,dc=yourdomain,dc=com</baseDN>
        <adminDN/>
        <adminPassword/>
      </ldap>

    Because the Zimbra solution does not yet allow external clients to log in and I need to make sure that whatever can be done on the web-client can also be done on the remote clients... No use having IM, if half the users who log in using Mail clients etc don't see eachother...

    I log into the Zimbra IM using Digsby and I know there are people on here using Pidgin and maybe Trillian.

    We have had no issues with external XMPP clients logging into Zimbra (using a few different IM clients - Adium, Spark, Pidgin so far - we're still testing to see what we'll be recommending).

    Other XMPP services are able to connect to us as well (Google Talk to Zimbra and Vice-versa has been fine).

    What has been happening when you try to have external clients connect to Zimbra?

    Have you setup a SRV record for your domain in DNS ? Along the lines of _xmpp-server._tcp.mydomain.name IN SRV 0 0 5269 my.zcs.server.name

    Well my problem was that I was already running openfire... quit that and restarted the service and now it all works!!!

    My only question now is how do I configure/expand the service to connect to other servers or limit the connection to other servers.
