purging logger database

My logger db is now toppling 150GB or so and I'm interested in purging it. Is there a recommended way to do this? What would be lost (e.g. historical reports, etc)?

I'd also recommend getting yourself up to the latest 5.0.x release as there have been improvements to the logger system since 4.5.6
