Default Backup to NAS - NFS or SMB?

Hi folks, I'm using NE 5.0.8 currently and backups are being placed in the default /opt/zimbra/backup and that's OK currently. For safely though I have a NAS that I have planned to mount as /opt/zimbra/backup for off box safetey.

The current blog post at Zimbra :: Blog got me thinking.
  • Should I use NFS or SMB to mount the share?
  • Should it stay offline and mount at time of backups?
Any ideas would be welcome.

I understood NFS/SMB to be bad for direct backups (I am happy to be corrected here). Typically what we do is let the backups run in the box and then rsync off to our NAS devices.

That's an idea I thought of and actually have it running right now infact. I suppose I could just set up a cron job to do it on a daily basis.
