Default [SOLVED] Zimbra to Zimbra migration

    Good day readers,

At first I would like to thank you for the great product. And beside that a nice forum+wiki with lots of information.

    Now here is my question:

I work at a Hosting company where we Host websites and Mail. On request our costumers can have a Zimbra ran Web mail, since a few months.
We ourselves where already running Zimbra on a local server.

Now we have decided to Migrate the mailboxes from our Local Server to the Server we already have in a Data center for our costumers.

-Local server runs on version Version 4.5.5_GA_838.UBUNTU6
-Data Center runs on version Version 5.0.2_GA_1975.UBUNTU6.NETWORK

I would like to know what the best way would be to migrate all our users, calenders and permissions.. Basically our entire setup.

I have seen others using this method:
    1. Create a backup
2 copy backup to other server
    3. Restore from backup.

Now does this method also work with different versions? And what about the Host name etc?

I hope this post is clear enough and anyone will be able to assist me. If you need more information just ask. Thanks in advance to everyone willing to give me a hand.

    Yours,
    Benny Verschoor

Plenty of people have posted in the forums about moving zimbra to a new server, did you search the forums for relevant posts? There are also some details in the forums:

    Hi phoenix,

Thank you for your reply. I have been looking for this on the history of the zimbra forums for the past 4 days.

The thing is, all I can find are posts about Migrations on the same version OR to a new server.

Now I want to Migrate to an existing server with differed versions, now about this I have not found any other threads.

You should never do that, you should migrate to the same Zimbra version and then perform upgrades on the new server or (if you prefer) upgrade the current server and make sure it's running OK then do the migration.

That must be why I couldn't find any threads about it, nobody been stupid (or daring;-) ) enough to even think about it.

Will have to see what my Senior thinks about it. Again thanks for your reply.

Sorry, I've just noticed you local server isn't NE is it? If that's the case and you only want to move mailboxes to the new server then you could do it with IMAPSYNC as you've already mentioned. How many accounts are involved?

It is about 24 users.. Now I have not installed this version so I am not sure if it is NE or not... If that is the .NETWORK after the version name then indeed it does not say that in our current version.

I will see how it works with IMAPSYNC then...

Anything I should put an extra eye on doing this?

You can get the version from the wbe UI with
    Code:
    $set: get version

    or via the cli with

    zmcontrol -v
Contacts can be exported as a .csv file and then imported into the new Zimbra but calendars are bit bit more long winded.
