Default [SOLVED] relay all e-mail even local

Seen a few topics on this but nothing concrete.

For wierd reasons, but they're valid I need all e-mail sent through zimbra to relay to another smtp server on my network. I'm in a multiserver setup and this would mean yeah that all e-mails need to go

mailbox -> mta -> other smtp -> mta -> mailbox

I have tried going in through the web interface and even setting the webmail mta to be this other smtp server, using zmprov to set zimbraMtaRelayHost and even tried using the transport map to say

* smtpther.smtp.host (the stupid smiley replaces my : o )

but no matter what, mails sent locally on zimbra still go

mailbox -> mta -> mailbox

Is there any way to do this?

hrm, i think i solved it. i was doing all this on the mta server. setting the relays on the mailbox server seems to have done it so now it does

mailbox -> other smtp -> mta -> mailbox

Default relay

bdial... can you elaborate on this as I'm trying to relay mail from zimbra server to google apps server. I have to do it this way because of compliance issues..and the fact that we have an external archiving server that uses postfix rules to archive.. Thanks

if you go into your admin ui, go to servers, choose your mailbox server and hit the mta tab you need to chagne

Web mail MTA Hostname:
Relay MTA for external delivery:

set those both to your google apps server or whatever and that should relay all mail.

After upgrading to 5.0.9 and installing another node which is only running as an MTA (no mail store) I seem to have some mail going directly out via MX record.

Both zimbraMtaRelayHost and zimbraSmtpHostname are pointed to the IP of my MTA. However in the following snippet of zimbra.log it looks like the message went out via "64.18.4.10" which is not my MTA. Is my interpretation of this log correct?

hrm. my situation was a bit different and it may not be your solution. i wasn't that concerned about all my e-mails going out that one server, just ones bound for my domain (of which my external smtp serer is the mx record) so thats why those settings worked for me. it sounds like you're in need of a different setting, or perhaps a manual postfix change
