    Default Zimbra performance issues

We're running 4.5.7 on an older Dell PE850 server. It's been running on this server for just about a year now. Our user account hasn't increase dramatically, but we have added some domains to it, and removed some domains from it over time. I posted a case in the zimbra support portal, but it's been more than 24hrs with no response, so I thought I'd try here.

Over the last month or so our server has begun to behave very sluggishly. The users get errors in the Browser "The server appears to be slow to respond, and may be unavailable". Additionally I can tell that the CPU/IO response on the server is very slow. I've looked into the hardware and don't believe that anything with the hardware is causing to operate slower than it was before when everything was working fine. Is there some configuration issue which might be causing this? Is there anything I can do that might speed the operation of the system up, even if it's turning off some minor functionality. We're going to go ahead and upgrade the box to new hardware, but that's 2-3 weeks away and I need to get some more performance out of the system now if possible. We have about 680 users on it and 108 domains.

Here's the output of vmstat and iostat.

    Code:

It's configured with just the "/" filesystem. No other filesystems. Running Ubuntu 6.06LTS as well.

Check Services to Disable and Making Zimbra run on minimal RAM...these could help your server limp until the replacement.

Thanks for the pointers to those links. I read through them and they definitely confirmed that the box is dreadfully undersized and that's likely the primary cause of the problem. Hopefully we'll be able to get a new server in asap to resolve the issue.
