Is it possible to upgrade Zimbra without having to download the whole 300mb install file? Surely the differences between minor versions aren't that much...
And patching all the changes would probably be more work than would be worth it.
I'm thinking more along the lines of H-Sphere's installer/update script - it checks all the packages then upgrades them if necessary. dpkg and rpm both provide this ability... and how hard can it be to just download a diff for each package?
It's not that we haven't thought of the operating system platform repository front, automatic upgrades & patching, or out-of-cycle update support for third-party packages - it's just on the back-burner right now.
Sure, I understand - it's just with your releases flying out the door so quickly it's hard to keep up, and it will be wasting a lot of bandwidth.
But for now, I'll download that file ;)
Personally, I prefer it this way.
Performing an over the wire update or a delta patch on a critical email server is the kind of thing that would have me considering a gin & tonic breakfast.
Having the complete installer available at installation time just feels a little more comfortable to me.
