Default Problems with zimbra samba when upgraded from 5 to 6

Hope someone can help, because I'm close, but not yet there

I had zimbra samba integration working on verion 5.0.18 on a separate server and decided to move to a vm setup and upgrade to 6.0.7 at the same time.

I followed the instructions from the howto for 6 and was able to upgrade without issue.

I then made some of the changes in the 6 howto so that I was no longer using anonymous authentication so I now have the zmposix and zmposixroot accounts.

Everything seems to be working as far as the connection is concerned and I can browse the zimbra ldap server using webmin client and ldap-account-manager. getent groups and passwd also return the users and groups from zimbra.

The problem comes when I get to the next steps

    Code:
    smbclient -U ubuntu2 //gregzimbra2.zimbra.com/ubuntu2
    which gives me the error:

    session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
    and
    Code:
    smbpasswd -a root
    which gives me the error:

Failed to add entry for user root.
I'm not too sure which log file to look at but the log from /var/log/samba/log.server_name gives the following

    [2010/09/14 22:11:39, 2] auth/auth.c:320(check_ntlm_password)
check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [mhawkins] -> [mhawkins] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER
    [2010/09/14 22:11:39, 3] smbd/error.c:60(error_packet_set)
    error packet at smbd/sesssetup.c(122) cmd=115 (SMBsesssetupX) NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
    [2010/09/14 22:11:39, 3] smbd/sec_ctx.c:310(set_sec_ctx)
    setting sec ctx (0, 0) - sec_ctx_stack_ndx = 0
    [2010/09/14 22:11:39, 3] smbd/connection.c:31(yield_connection)
    Yielding connection to
    [2010/09/14 22:11:39, 3] smbd/server.c:849(exit_server_common)
Server exit (failed to receive smb request)
Is it possible that I'm getting problems with unix uid and gid's not matching the zimbra ldap ones? The samba machine is new and some of the users were created by the samba server before the ldap was connected, so no doubt they are different, but most of the users don't exist as unix users on the samba machine and the smbclient doesn't work on them either.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mark

You could actually read the Product Documentation and search the forums for the information you need.

    Default Zimbra and samba passwords

I had installed zimbra 6 OCS as PDC on ubuntu 8.04. All works fine but this:

When windows user changed his domain password (via windows) - zhe zimbra password is not updates. So he has new windows (domain) password and old Zimbra web-interface password. Passwords will become the same only after zimbra server restart.

Does anybody know how resolve the problem?

If you're talking about having an AD controller for external authentication then Zimbra does not maintain the passwords in sync (there’s an RFE in bugzilla for that). You'll need to maintain the passwords yourself for now, there are several threads in the forums (please search for them) with scripts that should do what you need.

no, my zimbra is the PDC. It installed like this:
UNIX and Windows Accounts in Zimbra LDAP and Zimbra Admin UI 6.0 - Zimbra :: Wiki

    the problem is:
if windows password changed then zimbra password changed only after zimbra's reboot. Why?

Anyone encountering the SID problem reported in Talk:UNIX and Windows Accounts in Zimbra LDAP and Zimbra Admin UI - Zimbra :: Wiki ?

I am currently encoutnering it in Zimbra 6.0.3 running on Ubuntu 8.0.4. Any ideas how to fix this or if it is already fixed in a newer release?
