No workaround on the bug
I found a way...
you create an user in that domain, let's call it galsync (the only thing that you have to set is a last name - and check the hide in gal checkbox and of course the posix and samba settings).

after this you configure the gal for that domain, in the galsync account box you just right galsync (replace after auto completing to galsync@domain.tld - not sure if this is necessary) and in the source name you right 'zimbra' (if you want a unified gal for the whole server or 'InternalGal', you select the sync interval, hit next and after that, of course finish.

Of course, after creating the galsync@domain.tld account you can also

zmgsautil createAccount -a galsync@domain.tld -n InternalGAL --domain domain.com -t zimbra -f _InternalGAL
as per GAL Sync Account - Zimbra :: Wiki

The only nasty thing is the fact that if you look in the galsync user it will not have the typical redish/pinkish galsync icon. Everything else is ok.

I've got primary and backup AD server. Where do I specify the backup server IP address in case of the failure of the primary domain controller?

Just letting you know that with Zimbra 7.2 the two zimlets seem to cause trouble: the admin page is not loading anymore.
Disable both zimbra_samba and zimbra_posixaccount to have access to the admin page.
This is obviously not a solution.
This issues's own thread.
