Difference between changing zimbra Host Name & Domain Name.

Using zcs 5.0.5 open source edition.

I want to know about the technical difference between zimbra host name & zimbra domain name.

I want to change my domain name from webmail.renovau.net to renovau.co.in

So,tell me the command to do that. Previously,I did to change both names. - Host name & Domain name. But,It was unsuccessful.

Mike has already answered this in [SOLVED] How to change zimbra mail server domain name.. You can set the server name to what ever you like, and then add additional domains, so when you provision a account you decide which domain it should belong to.

Dear Sir,

I know that How to change domain name. But,I am little bit confused in "Changing Host Name" & "Changing Domain Name".

Here is my problem.

I have a physical rack server,having zimbra mail server name "webmail.renovau.net"

For this "webmail.renovau.net",I have made following entries onto "inexpensivedomains.com"

Forward entry :- A record - points to 58.68.123.55
MX entry :- MX(10) - points to 58.68.123.55

Now,when I am sending mails from webmail.renovau.net,the receiver is getting a mail with full domain name,which is "webmail.renovau.net" & I just want to assign "renovau.net" or something like a new domain "renovau.co.in".

I have registered a new domain,which is "renovau.co.in" on the net4in.com site.

So,Now You please tell me ,what to change from zimbra side.I want to assign "renovau.co.in" domain name for zimbra & Also I want to run my company website on the same zimbra server.

To run both things,Is it compulsory to use zimbra as an "http"? Right Now,zimbra is running on "https" port.

So,this is my problem.

Now,please tell me what to do? Shall I change my "Host Name" or change my "domain name"?

Putting all else aside, make the domain renovau.net in ZCS > send a test email - does it do what you want?

1 host (your HOSTNAME) can have multiple domains at it (after 50 they won't show in the left hand list - but they're there if you view all domains).

Depending on how your DNS & MX records were at time of setup it creates a default server.domain.com or domain.com DOMAIN.

On each domain you can add a Virtual host > so that users logging in don't have to type username@whateverdomain.com/pass they can just visit virtualhost.whateverdomain.com or whateverdoamain.com (if you point dns there to your zimbra box) and type in username/pass.

Lastly you can change the server HELO value (how the server greets other servers) search for other threads on this.
& A reverse dns/ptr record is a good thing to have.

Dear Sir,

I have successfully changed my domain name.But,after changing the domain,the zmcontrol status command is giving me a very very slow response to show all service running/not running status.

This is the reason why it is getting solved mark.

My forward (A) entry & MX Entry on the remote server is given below.

webmail.renovau.net - A - 58.68.123.55
webmail.renovau.net - MX(10) - 58.68.123.55

So,I have mentioned webmail.renovau,net above,that is the reason why i have made my zimbra server same as the domain name.

Simply,I have made a new entry on remote side that is

renovau.co.in - A - 58.68.123.55
renovau.co.in - MX(10) - 58.68.123.55

So,Now I want to change my domain name from webmail.renovau.net to renovau.co.in.

How it could be possible? & after changing the domain name to "renovau.co.in",will all users cget mail with only "username@renovau.co.in"?

After making zimbra web console onto http,how to make a website on "renovau.co.in"?

In Short,If any user want to see the website,he/she will typr "renovau.co.in" & If he/she wants to contact,then they will mail us on username@renovau.co.in

Is it possible?

You seem to have no external DNS records for your domain:

Nobody can send you email at the domain.
