Thunderbird 5.7.1 Error

Using Thunderbird client, we are suddenly receiving Relay access denied 554 5.7.1 errors attempting to send to any domain but our own. This function was working and has suddenly stopped. We have tried all of the different options within Outbound Server configuration (No, TLS, if available, TLS Only, SSL) to no avail. We do have proper username and password information. We have enabled "Enable Authentication". We can receive email with no problem, but outbound mail will not work. We are able to send and receive from the local network. This only fails when outside of the LAN. We do have TLS authentication checked. Although, we have tried it with and without TLS.

Please advise.

Thanks for your response, but unless I misunderstand, this is to unconditionally allow an IP or network to relay email. Our issue is that we have people on the road and so they are not always getting the same IP etc. We want them to be able to be anywhere with any IP, open Thunderbird and be able to send and receive email by authenticating to the server. That is what seems to have stopped happening, but the error that we're getting is the relaying error.

Can you point me in the right direction and/or to the forums that you referenced in your previous email if they are still applicable?

That is what seems to have stopped happening, but the error that we're getting is the relaying error.

Check the mynetworks setting and some of the troubleshooting tips in there. It isn't just for adding remote networks to your system, it allows your users to relay through you server. If a user authenticates against your server they should be able to relay no matter what their IP address.

You should search the forums for details, there are dozens of threads on mynetworks and user authentication.

I have searched the forums and I'm still stuck. Further tests show the following:

On an external network, open Thunderbird
Supply password when prompted
New mail is downloaded to client with no issues
CAN send to any user that has email set up on the Zimbra server (swordofthespirit.org domain)
CANNOT send to any email address that requires mail to leave the server (gmail.com, yahoo.com etc.)

Even though it is evident that we are authenticated to the server (receiving email and sending to users local to the server) we are still receiving a 5.7.1 Relay access denied error.

What other details can I offer that may help in resolving this issue? More detailed feedback and options would be greatly appreciated.
