    Question Reducing server load by not logging every minute ?

    Hi,

    I'm have a old system with Zimbra running on it. As I'm the only user I chose to try it on a server that is a step below the minimum system specs.
    The system is a PII 350 Mhz with 512 MB Ram.

    For 1 user I find that good enough (Hey, I'm the only user).

    I found that the logger is executing every minute.
    The crontab says:
    #
    # Status logging
    #
    * * * * * /opt/zimbra/bin/zmstatuslog
    */10 * * * * /opt/zimbra/bin/zmdisklog

    Now I would like to increase the interval of the zmstatuslog to something like 5 or 10 minutes.
    i.e. */10 * * * * /opt/zimbra/bin/zmstatuslog

    Can I do that relatively safely ? Do I make that change in the crontab or in a different location.

    Thanks.

    Does this thread help or do you just want to change the interval they run at?

    I want the logging but not at the default level. It causes my small server to use too much of the available resources. I found that without the logging the CPU load is _MUCH_ lower.

    I'll just reduce the times in the crontab for now and see what happens.

    So I now have:
    #
    # Status logging
    #
    02,12,22,32,42,52 * * * * /opt/zimbra/bin/zmstatuslog
    00,15,30,45 * * * * /opt/zimbra/bin/zmdisklog
    #

    Yes - turning that down has exactly one effect - the update of the "server status" page in the admin UI is a lot slower.
