    Exclamation Exporting Zimbra Mailbox

I need to export all messages from a very large Zimbra mailbox. I've found plenty of articles for importing, but can't seem to find anything for exporting the messages. Can someone give me an idea of the best way to extract the messages? Ultimately I need to get them into a specific format, but if I can just get the messages as standard RFC822 files then I have tools to convert them to the format I need.

The REST Interface should do what you want, check this article: User Migration - Zimbra :: Wiki

I believe messages are stored in standard Maildir format in /opt/zimbra/store/0/<MID>/msg/ where MID is the unique mailbox ID.

To find the ID of a user, you need to look for the mid= section in this command (replace mailbox@example.com with the user you're looking for):

    Code:
    cat /opt/zimbra/log/mailbox.log|grep mailbox@example.com
    Output is like this:

    Code:
    2008-06-09 18:09:37,230 INFO [btpool0-44] [name=ailbox@example.com;mid=972;ip=10.0.0.14;] misc - folderId: 2

If Maildir is the format, then that certainly should work for me as I need either Maildir or Mbox format.

I was trying to get the REST URL to work as well as that sounded like an interesting solution for this and some of the other exports I may need to do, but couldn't seem to get it to work. I'm sure I'm building the URL incorrectly and that is the problem, but I haven't had much experience with that.

Basically if I have user@domain.com on server mbox1server.ourdomain.com and I want the entire Inbox, what would the format be for the URL? We have multiple domains and users on this box and the user domain does not match the domain of the server. Would I simply wget it on the box to export to a directory?

    Code:
    http://mail.domain.com/zimbra/user/name@domain.com/Inbox.zip
That'll zip them up neatly for you as well.

I tried the URL, but I get a permission denied error when I try and access it. I've tried various users including zimbra and admin but so far haven't had any luck. Advice?

I was able to do this logged in as the user. When I try as the admin, it gives an error saying 'no such item'.
