Default Restore Zimbra backup data ?

For some reason, I make a backup of zimbra by copying 4 directories: /opt/zimbra/store, db, index, openldap-data. Then I remove the old zimbra (M2), install the GA version.
Then I copy these folders to /zimbra with the same permission as they have.

Stop zimbra, start it, in "Starting mta..." step, it require "Password:...".
So, why its require password, and which pwd it needs?
This way of backup old data is okay ?

How about this way of backup? It seems that the system is not ok when I copy or move all these 4 directories to /opt/zimbra.
I just want to make new GA version to work with these backup data. Please advise !

Well the right way is to upgrade to the version you want to be at then upgrade. All the copy file methods are really not the smoothest way to go.

Now, I have no choice to roll back to old zimbra system (M3), I just can make a clean install of GA or M3 zimbra. Can I install M3 again, copy these folders to where they belong, then upgrade to GA ?
Always put myself in a not popular situation, can you show me something that I can do with these 4 directories.
Thx.

That may work (reinstall, restore directories) - after you do that, run (as root) the zmfixperms.sh script (I think it's in /opt/zimbra/bin, may be in /opt/zimbra/libexec).

Also, I'm not sure why you're only copying 4 directories - after you upgrade, grab the whole /opt/zimbra directory and copy it to the other server. Then, re-upgrade that server to the same version.
