    Default zimbraPrefInboxReadLifetime

Can someone tell me what this parameter on the zmprov mc command affects?

    Default

zimbraPrefInboxReadLifetime is how long already read mail can remain in the inbox before automatically removed - default is 0 which means no action will be taken.

It's counterpart is zimbraPrefInboxUnreadLifetime which is the same for unread mail.

Admins can set these attributes via CLI on COS or individual user:

zimbraMailMessageLifetime (default is 0 disabled - careful with this one as it affects mail in any folder)
    zimbraMailSpamLifetime (default is 30d)
    zimbraMailTrashLifetime (default is 30d)

These as well, though currently not exposed in the user's UI:
    zimbraPrefInboxReadLifetime
    zimbraPrefInboxUnreadLifetime
    zimbraPrefSentLifetime
    zimbraPrefJunkLifetime
    zimbraPrefTrashLifetime

What version are you running? If it's not 5.0.3+ you may need to set an additional value (zimbraMailPurgeSleepInterval) see: [SOLVED] does the spam filter learn from unread messages in Junk
