It can be made to work today, we just don't ship samba so you'll need to configure it yourself.

you don't ship means you already has a working solutions just not publish it or the infrastructure is ready but no one already start to work on it?

We ship a LDAP directory. You can configure samba to talk to an LDAP server. So it can and has been made to work we just don't ship Samba itself with our Zimbra install.

Default zimbra admin ui extension for samba

hi,
may be i was not specific enough. i try to reference to the
http://wiki.zimbra.com/index.php?tit...nding_Admin_UI
and ask about that anyone is implement samba extension using this api? is there any plan about it? work or will work in the near future someone from the zimbra team on samba ldap attrib management from zibra admin gui?
since many people ask about it and imho manypeople would love it. since currently this's the biggest problem with migration from exchange and active directory to any kind of linux solution.
if no one already working on it. what would be the best way to implement it? i read the above doc, but that's only the ui part and it suggest to call an external url. what would be the best way to implement it (think about it as a future inclusion into the upstream version).
thanks.

We started some time ago with this integration, but at the moment it's on hold because of some other projects. For the backend we plan to write a soap service in java that will connect to the samba ldap-backend. The same way like the idealx scripts.

I am quoting our release engineer on this.
Quote:
We can't guarantee it from a support standpoint unless it is tested and shipped with the product but to our knowledge upgrades will not negatively impact the schema extensions.
If, on the other hand, you guys want us to ship this with the product and support it, you can open an enhancement request and vote on it
