It can be made to work today, we just don't ship samba so you'll need to configure it yourself.Originally Posted by lfarkas

and ask about that anyone is implement samba extension using this api? is there any plan about it? work or will work in the near future someone from the zimbra team on samba ldap attrib management from zibra admin gui?
since many people ask about it and imho manypeople would love it. since currently this's the biggest problem with migration from exchange and active directory to any kind of linux solution.
if no one already working on it. what would be the best way to implement it? i read the above doc, but that's only the ui part and it suggest to call an external url. what would be the best way to implement it (think about it as a future inclusion into the upstream version).
We started some time ago with this integration, but at the moment it's on hold because of some other projects. For the backend we plan to write a soap service in java that will connect to the samba ldap-backend. The same way like the idealx scripts.
Oh man this rocks! Will zimbra guarantee the user samba/posix attribs make it across upgrades?
that's exactly what i was looking for!!!
imho with this feature integrated into zimbra, it's become a real killer apps, since finaly there is something which can replace active directory and exchange, which is missing from the linux world!
If, on the other hand, you guys want us to ship this with the product and support it, you can open an enhancement request and vote on itWe can't guarantee it from a support standpoint unless it is tested and shipped with the product but to our knowledge upgrades will not negatively impact the schema extensions.
