Moving Accounts - Jetty/Work Fills Up

HI all,

We're moving a bunch of mailboxes between our servers. On one of them, the root /opt/zimbra volume filled up and I tracked it down to Jetty. There are some HUGE logs in /opt/zimbra/jetty/work/5bb7333c-a8e4-44a4-a3b0-235a51089917/blobs/3/0/*.msg files, all created today.

What is getting created in this directory, and can I remove them...or is there a way to clear them? And why would a zmmailboxmove command create Jetty .msg logs? And why only on this server....it didn't create these .msg logs on any other server....?

Hi Matt,

Did you ever figure this out? I just figured out that one of our servers did this too. There's 9GB worth of data there and it was all created (or modified) at the same time.

Hi...

In our case it was zmmailboxmove actions that would fail for one reason or another. Jetty seems to use that work directory as temporary storage until the move completes successfully at which point it cleans up after itself. If the moves fail then the data gets left in place. I just deleted it manually.

To be sure, just restart mailboxd....or zmcontrol stop/start. At that point it's a fresh copy of Jetty running and you should be able to safely delete stuff in the work folder.

Thanks for the quick response! Our mystery has been solved. The files were actually a bit old (I was trying to figure out why one mailbox server's /opt/zimbra partition was much bigger than the others..). Turns out there was a zmmailboxmove of a really large account on that date that failed and the person who did it didn't realize that. I opened the mailbox.dat file and, sure enough, there was the mailbox info for that user.
