I've been wrestling with this issue for months now with a particular user (who happens to be in a remote location, which I thought was part of the cause). I resolved it with something embarrassingly simple: I recreated her Outlook profile. Somehow, the Outlook profile had some form of corruption buried within it, which was causing IMAP timeouts. Hrmph!
