GetMiniCalRequest Method Error

Some users are getting this error message almost every time they click on any part of Zimbra (new email, calendar, for example).


A network service error has occurred. msg: system failure: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: host parameter is null
code: service.FAILURE
method: GetMiniCalRequest
detail: soap:Receiver
trace: btpool0-902:1207751130302:7374105e707b66b9

Might this be bug 25804? And if so, what can we do short of waiting for 5.0.5?

Start by:
zmprov ma user@domain.com zimbraPrefCalendarAlwaysShowMiniCal FALSE
& see if that gets rid of the error

Then on an account you can afford some troubleshooting time on (with it set to TRUE) open debug/dev mode: Web Client URL Tricks - Zimbra :: Wiki
https:// server.zimbra.com/?dev=1
It can take a while, be patient - then have a look at the GetMiniCalRequest

So we can get some more output in the mailbox.log you might also:
zmprov aal user@domain.com zimbra.soap debug

If I run:
zmprov ma user@domain.com zimbraPrefCalendarAlwaysShowMiniCal FALSE

will that remove the minicalendar from the user's UI?

I just want manage end users' expectations before we start making these kinds of big changes.

Yes, it disables the mini-cal in the lower left corner.

Well, actually running that zmprov command disabled the entire calendaring function within ZCS for that user account.

Sounds like we should open an official support ticket, yes?

That's odd, you sure you did zimbraPrefCalendarAlwaysShowMiniCal & not zimbraFeatureCalendarEnabled FALSE?

Anything in the logs after turning on debug?

Well, I'm a big chicken when it comes to zmprov commands, so I cut 'n pasted from your post. :-)

We have not yet turned on debugging. On a whim, we asked the users to clear their browsers' caches, then we turned the minicals back on (using the up arrow to get the command prompt history and changing FALSE to TRUE).

The problem seems to have gone away now, so we have something to try if any other users report this issue.

The only two remaining issues are that compose/reply/forward new windows are very slow to load, and on several browser/OS combinations the initial login window is also very slow to load.

For the former issue, we have asked users to turn off the Composing preference to do composing in a new window.

For the latter, we just hit the Stop button on the browser followed by the Reload button and the login dialog box appears immediately.

Well, there is one other issue...

A number of our users have called to complain that the Froggy theme from ZCS 4.5 is gone. Not sure I can open a support ticket on that one, but perhaps an RFE in Bugzilla...

I see you did open a ticket, don't forget to let support know if you're comfortable with closing it for now.

Kinda known & we've done some things to help (can't find the bugs right now).

Sure, make an RFE - we're also making a bigger push for the community to skin or perhaps you can take a stab at it (fire up Zimbra Desktop and start tweaking colors on an existing skin)

We've had several users with the minical issue; I'd like to have a 24-hour period with no errors, and then I'll ask support to close the ticket with our workaround on clearing the browser cache.

On the login window not populating the first time, and WRT my other post on performance tweaks (thanks Zimbra for updating that article to include ZCS 5 items), I discovered that the ZCS 5 migration carried over some of our 32-bit, >4GB RAM tweaks, like reducing memory percentage allocated to MySQL and other items.

We've gone through a lot of the settings with a fine-toothed comb and made some changes. We'll do a zmcontrol restart in the wee hours tonight and see what happens tomorrow.

Guess you'll be typing those suggested zmprov commands with a bit more care now that you know we all are cutting and pasting them, eh? :-)
