Default GAL limited to License number?

I am having lots of trouble with the GAL. Using the internal auth. Problem is we have several distribution lists that appear to count toward the allowed limit of the GAL. Currently our GAL does not have approx 12 users in it. We are about 8 shy of our licensed number of users but the GAL is full because of the distribution lists. Why is the GAL tied to the number of users? is there a work around? This is becoming a real problem for us.

Thanks,

Joe

Need to make this a little more clear for us...

-ham/spam/wiki/resources/distribution lists shouldn't count against license numbers
-The default admin account does count as a user, archive mailboxes (in ZCO) count as users against your license count as well.

a) Sounds like your saying the admin console license tab isn't pulling the total of currently used accounts in properly?
b) How many normal mail accounts/users do you have?
c) run the zmaccts command
d) "but the GAL is full because of the distribution list" Are you talking about the max results returned on GAL searches?
e) Do you want to hide the distribution lists when searching?
f) "Why is the GAL tied to the number of users?" doesn't make any sense at all - it's a global address list, of course it's going to be affected by users in it.
g) ZCS version?
h) How many distribution lists to you have?
i) How many resources/locations?

Are you possibly talking about this option here?
Admin UI->Global Settings->General tab->"Most results returned by GAL search"

For instance ArcaneMagus's steps would be the way to correct D below:

E would entail opening the distribution list and clicking 'hide in GAL'

thanks for the replies.

The question is this:

If I am licensed for 150 users and have 140 actual users (including admin and all other users) we also have 25 distribution lists can they all be in the GAL? In my case the GAL does not have approx 15 users in it.

I will post more information once I get to work and look more closely at the server.

I don't believe there's any restriction on the GAL's size. If you're near your limit on accounts, I've had an issue where deleted accounts are not immediately removed from the license count. Even though I only had 75 users, I had re-created many of them, and my license count was at 100. When I restarted the server, the count was re-calculated and was then correct.

Bug 24009 - deleted accounts don't update license count till server restart

The problem is that only 125 (this happens to be the number we are licensed for) is shown in the list when a user clicks on the "to:" button in the web client. The next button is grayed out. (show addresses from: Gloabal Address List) So the only way to find a person that is not listed is to search for them. We have 117 "users and about 25 distribution lists.

Thanks,

Joe

This going to be a deal breaker. Is there no way to view more than 125 in the GAL?

The powers that be are starting to pressure us to solve this or switch.
