Default dbconn - Connection pool is 75% utilized

Hi..our users were facing POP3 problems and i looked at mailbox.log and see the dbconn entries.
What dose this mean and where is this 12 connection setting.
    in our my.cnf we have max_connections = 100

Its the number of threads to handle POP3 connections. How many do you have it set at in the Admin GUI->Global Settings->POP3 (I think). You could increase from the command line using :-

    Code:
    zmprov ms servername zimbraPop3NumThreads 50
How many people are using POP3 to connect ?

Is this 5.0.1 (profile) & how many users/hardware of the box?

Kinda reminds me of the 'database connections can't keep up with the load' kinda thing but I haven't seen it on the pop end in a while.

Actually 12 out of 12 is not 75% but I think it's just that the warning crops up at 75%

So if you wanted to track it down let's do as the message says & edit:
    /opt/zimbra/conf/log4j.properties (or log4j.properties.in)
    and add:
    log4j.logger.zimbra.dbconn=DEBUG
then restart logger/or the entirety of zcs as needed

    zmlocalconfig | grep 12
    or
    zmlocalconfig | grep zimbra_mysql_connector_maxActive

(gets computed from zmmycnf or something on install if I remember right)

Does the message change if you set:
    zmlocalconfig -e zimbra_mysql_connector_maxActive=13

Thanks..i will try this and post the findings..
    the setup is
    # IBM X335 eServer
    # Dual xeon 3.2
    # 2 GB Ram
    # dual 2 x 72 GB 10K RPM SCSI no Raid
    # CentOS 5.1
    # Zimbra 5.02 (pop and imap threads 200, max_connections = 100 in my.cnf)
    # Around 850 users primarily POP and SMTP

CPU Usage is been almost 90+% on this server from last 1 week so today we installed another dedicated MX (plain postfix + mysql) in the front to offload the inbound traffic.

i will do the things you told and will get back

    Thanks

missed this "zimbra_mysql_connector_maxActive" line in Performance Tuning Guidelines for Large Deployments - Zimbra :: Wiki wiki

    zmlocalconfig | grep zimbra_mysql_connector_maxActive
    returned = 12

    i have done
    zmlocalconfig -e zimbra_mysql_connector_maxActive=100

and restarted the services..will check in few hours if the error comes back..

    Thanks for the help

I'd say 100 on the 'zimbra_mysql_connector_maxActive' is a bit high for 850 users - maybe cut that in half to 50 for now.
    What's your 'max_connections' set to?
