Address Book Text Highlighting

Hi everyone.

I have a small but extremely frustrating problem that I hope someone can help me with.

I cannot highlight text from the address book (unless I edit the contact) - therefore I cannot copy and paste addresses, telephone or fax numbers from the address book - because i get no right-click menu.

I've upgraded from zcs 5.0.0.0 GA to 5.0.0.2 GA to try and resolve the problem, but I get the same issue.

I get this with firefox 2.0.0.12 and iexplorer 6 - from any client machine.

If I change from advanced mode to HTML mode I can copy and paste from the address book. But I really want to be able to do this from advanced mode.

Oh, and I installed zimbra dektop client to see if that would help, but amazingly, I get the same problem. Can't copy and paste any information from the address book!

I am having the same issue. In addition, many of my users are starting to recognize this as a problem and are inquiring and complaining.

It seems like a MAJOR oversight in design (not to be able to copy from text that appears on screen). Given the superb design in general with Zimbra I find it hard to believe this is a "mistake", which worries me. -- it's such an obvious feature I wouldn't even call it a feature -- it's a standard that isn't being met by Zimbra.

I looked through the Zimbra bug database and found nothing about this issue. As a hosting provider I don't know what to tell my users. Can someone PLEASE share some information why copy is not allowed/working on the AJAX interfaces??

I refuse to believe this is just "how it works".

A couple of people in the IRC chatrooms have said this is the same with their installations - but it doesn't bother them.

I think this really is just "how it works"

My boss has taken to using HTML mode just so he can copy fax numbers from his contacts.

Maybe we should file a feature request

I submitted the following case to Zimbra using my hosting provider account.

Enhancement Request -

When viewing contact data using the AJAX web client a user currently has to edit the contact (be in data entry mode) to be able to highlight text and copy it to the clipboard. Since data entry is composed of multiple pages this may mean 3 clicks to get to the data that you see on screen in view mode.

For instance, I often store information in my notes field that I want to reuse and find it aggravating to navigate to the data entry pages then to my notes just to copy and paste data from the contact.

As a hosting provider my customers are now starting to ask me about this feature. It seems intuitive to be able to highlight text and copy it to the clipboard if you can see it on screen, and in fact you can do this when viewing email in the same AJAX web client, but I don't see any reports of this deficiency in the Address Book as a "bug".

Can you verify if this is on the radar at Zimbra and help me understand what the issue is (or if it's a design feature?) so I can better communicate a response to my users.

But if you highlight from left to right and then <CTRL-C> it does copy the information to the buffer.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this is an other case.

In the address book it is not possible to copy anything except you edit the contact. There is just no highlighting. This problem occurs with urls and normal text.

It's in since Zimbra 5 I think, before it was possible to copy this information.

Works perfectly fine for me in Firefox. Highlight and then copy using <CTRL-C> then paste it with <CTRL-V>.

You are so damn right! ( I installed 5.0.4 on a testserver now )

In 5.0.4 it works perfectly. So this is why I ask for news before.
