    Default smtp-amavisd Holds all mail

    Hi all
at work we are using zimbra open source as a groupware solution which is installed in dedicated server. the server has a 3.4 P4 CPU with 2GB of ram
this server is used by 50 employees

we started with version 4.5.5 it was working fine for 2 months then we faced a problem that all mail was holed inside the queue after then moved to defered

since then it seemed the only solution to solve this is by disabling the anti-virus and the anti-spam after that every thing was working fine

we upgraded to version 5.0.1 and after that 5.0.2
and we still have this issue

the salocal.cf gets reseted after every upgrade and
our network and the local network is in the trusted zone.

so is there any way to use the anti-virus and the anti-spam without the hold of mail

    thank you for time

It might help if you told us which operating system you're using. What's in the log files? Do you have correct DNS A & MX records and a correct /etc/hosts file? Is this server behind a NAT router and do you have a split DNS set-up?

BTW, the salocal.cf file is always overwritten during upgrade as are several other files. What changes have you mad to salocal.cf?
    Regards

Let's check your hosts and DNS with the following:

    Code:
host `hostname` <--- type as-is with backticks not single quotes
    dig yourdomain.com any
    dig yourdomain.com mx
    and post the results.
    Regards

    What's in the log files?
for the log the message stays in the active queue showing the smtp-amavisd content filter for a while after that it moves to deferred and stays there with the error "timed out while receiving the initial server greeting"

Do you, by any chance, have SElinux installed on this server or a firewall enabled? Can you post the error messages from the logs.
    Regards

I also forgot to ask if you have 'enable DNS lookups' enabled for the server?
