    Default [SOLVED] message count last piece of the puzzle

    using zimbra 5.02NE on opensuse 10.3

    I've been working on getting logging working in opensuse 10.3 in a multinode install with syslog-ng. i've kept a guide (it's a bit of a nightmare!) and will post it soon but theres one last piece of the puzzle i can't seem to get. my message statistics are not showing up.

    the 2 servers for this purpose are

    mailbox.domain.com
    mta.domain.com

    i also have an edge mail server that does spam/virus filtering. it's sophos and nto a zimbra it just relays stuff to mta.domain.com.

    I have 2 domains. teh main domain is the domain.com and i have another domain which is a catchall, it is domain.biz

    the mailbox server is running zimbra-logger. the mta server logs to the mailbox server. This works fine for showing status, disk usage, etc... it all is in the zimbra.log on the mailbox server for both servers.

    I also have mail logs from the mta.domain.com going to zimbra.log on the mailbox server. I see stuff like this in zimbra.log on the logger server

    Feb 7 14:14:20 mta postfix/smtpd[31627]: connect from sophos.domain.com[192.168.1.3]
    Feb 7 14:14:20 mta postfix/smtpd[31627]: 26709B82D1: client=sophos.domain.com[192.168.1.3]
    Feb 7 14:14:20 mta postfix/cleanup[31630]: 26709B82D1: message-id=<008e01c869bd$005428b0$48c7a8c0@client1>
    Feb 7 14:14:20 mta postfix/smtpd[31627]: disconnect from sophos.domain.com[192.168.1.3]
    Feb 7 14:14:20 mta postfix/qmgr[963]: 26709B82D1: from=<outside@somewhere.com>, size=58201, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
    Feb 7 14:14:20 mta postfix/lmtp[31631]: 26709B82D1: to=<bdial@domain.com>, orig_to=<bdial@domain.biz>, relay=mailbox.domain.com[192.168.93.135]:7025, delay=0.39, delays=0.2/0.02/0.01/0.16, dsn=2.1.5, , status=sent (250 2.1.5 OK)

    I may have up to 20 of htese in a day (i'm still in a testing environment) but when i go to Server Statistics, the grahps have nothing on them. If i go to look at the specific stats for mta.domain.com in message count/message volume i get "Data not yet available"

    Do I have mail logging setup correctly? I notice that status and disk messages logged from the mta server contain the full hostname + dns name name like

    Feb 7 14:18:04 mta zimbramon[32200]: 32200:info: 2008-02-07 14:18:01, STATUS: mta.rkk.com: stats: Running

    but the postfix logs just contain the hostname 'mta'.

    any idea why my system is handling other logs fine but not doing mta counts?

    Thanks!

    I've followed about every thread that remotely could relate to this and still no luck.

    I have looked at /tmp/logprocess.out on the logger server occasionally. Last time I looked, I saw this

    Processing mta entries from 4649
    Found 1 messages
    Inserted 1 rows
    Saving ID 4656
    Deleting processed postfix logs from raw_logs...Done

    However, when I go into the zimbra logs

    zimbra@mailbox:~> logmysql zimbra_logger
    mysql> select * from mta;
    Empty set (0.00 sec)

    mysql> select * from mta_aggregate;
    Empty set (0.00 sec)

    So when it said 'Inserted 1 rows' in the logwatch, where did it insert that? I dont know if this matters, but I'm not using amavis. Does the mta stats only read the amavis output?

    I think I found the answer to this. I had been sending test mail to the system using forwarding addresses. Hence the log entries like this

    Feb 7 14:14:20 mta postfix/lmtp[31631]: 26709B82D1: to=<bdial@domain.com>, orig_to=<bdial@domain.biz>, relay=mailbox.domain.com[192.168.93.135]:7025, delay=0.39, delays=0.2/0.02/0.01/0.16, dsn=2.1.5, , status=sent (250 2.1.5 OK)

    this was causing the zmlogprocess script to not run properly, because it wasn't expecting that extra orig_to= piece.

    I would think for terms of 'message count' that forwards should be counted as well since htey are still messages and count as traffic. I've filed a bug here: Bug 24536 - forwarded messages not counted toward mta count
