Default Another instance of NON-upload to briefcases

    Hi,

    Version string:
    Release 5.0.2_GA_1975.UBUNTU6 DEBIAN4.0 NETWORK edition

on a 2core Opteron, 4GB RAM, otherwise unloaded.

I've downloaded and installed the zcs-NETWORK-5.0.2_GA_1975.UBUNTU6.20080130232321 release on a 32bit version of Ubuntu 7.04. The installation (once the MX record problem was resolved - extremely non-trivial) was very easy.

I know - 7.04 is officially unsupported, but this has also been happening with supported OS versions as well, according to the forums.

With the exception of a few interface glitches which may or may not matter, it's been working OK. BUT just trying the briefcase upload and I've hit a problem which seems to be fairly frequent. I can create multiple briefcases, and can detach certain binary attachments to the briefcases (Tar.bz2) and can upload certain files (*.txt, *.h, *.log) into the briefcases, but cannot do so with all files, even a number of plain text files.

I can neither detach nor upload PDF files to a briefcase, and when I tried to detach a PDF file to any of 3 briefcases (including a newly created one), I got an error message that started:

    Code:
    msg: system failure: java.lang.NullPointerException
    code: service.FAILURE
    method: SaveDocumentRequest
    detail: soap:Receiver
    trace: com.zimbra.common.service.ServiceException: system failure: java.lang.NullPointerException Code:service.FAILURE at com.zimbra.common.service.Service...
This is a show stopper for me. Otherwise Zimbra is very close to a perfect system and we were getting close to buying it. If I can resolve this, it moves us that much closer to buying it, but this has to work for ALL files.

Could this be a JVM problem? I'm certainly willing to upgrade that subsystem to try. I currently have:

    java -version
    java version "1.6.0_04"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_04-b12)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 10.0-b19, mixed mode)

The zimbra server that is being used on the demo2 account system seems to have no problem with being able to upload such files.

    Default Mailbox.log

Thanks for the unexpectedly zippy response !!

Here's the relevant entry from the log file with user, machine and ip masked.

This was generated during the file upload to a briefcase.

Default Follow-up - entire log file, maybe easier to read.

Here is the complete log for several attempts to upload files to a briefcase. a text file containing fortran code was uploaded OK, a file ending in '.txt' was uploaded OK, but the same file without the '.txt' generated an error. Similarly, a file ending in '.c7s' was unable to be detached from the ncoming mail message, as was a pdf file.

The log file that references these failures, mod removal of lines as below and with the email addresses and IP numbers masked

    Code:
    tail -999 /opt/zimbra/log/mailbox.log |grep -v IndexWritersSweeperThread |\
    grep -v LmtpServer| grep -v Pop3SSLServer > zimbra_tailed_999_mailbox.log.errorsonly
    Thanks in advance,
    Harry

    Default

I am experiencing the same problem. I can create new briefcase folders but cannot add files.
If I try using the 'Upload File' option I select the file (tries many different types and sizes) and it sits there for a time that makes me think the file is being uploaded but then the upload dialogue goes away and there is still no file in the Briefcase.

The other option I have tried is the 'add to briefcase' link to save an attachment to the briefcase. When I do this I get message pop up at the top of the screen for a few seconds that says 'Unable to Create File'
    and an error dialogue:

A network service error has occurred.
    msg: system failure: java.lang.NullPointerException
    code: service.FAILURE
    method: SaveDocumentRequest
    detail: soap:Receiver
    trace: com.zimbra.common.service.ServiceException: system failure: java.lang.NullPointerException Code:service.FAILURE at com.zimbra.common.service.Service...

    Thanks

Can we get the whole log? Also, see my followup message

    Hey Guys,
this seems to be a problem with the mime headers. Do you guys have the Network Edition?

If it is a problem with "mime headers" as you say, how do we fix it?

Was there ever an outcome to this? I see quite a few message discussing the problem of file uploads to the briefcase not working but no suggested solutions.

    We just went from

trial NE Release 5.0.9_GA_2533.RHEL5_20080815101705 CentOS5 to
    open source Release 5.0.14_GA_2850.RHEL5_20090303142201 CentOS5.

Now the file upload to the briefcase is broken. It uploads images fine but not pdf files so it looks like we are running in to the issue of mime headers and file conversions discussed in the forums.

But as I said, I can't see any resolutions from anyone. Can anyone help with this? Not being able to upload files to the briefcase is a real show stopper for us.

    Cheers.
